Kind Words from Fellow Travellers
"A superbly constructed text"
On initial pick up I was unsure as to what I might make of the Fractured Soul. I loved the cover picture, but was unsure of the elements of humour. That didn’t fit. This is a serious subject; we shouldn’t be humorous about this.
However, as I read the book, it became increasingly obvious how relevant the humour is and also how necessary. There are several sections where the book is best described as a mindf***. Even though its written using language that is fairly straightforward and easy to understand, you still need frequent pauses to comprehend what you have just read. The humour helped with this massively.
So put simply, for me, this is basically the philosophy behind the psychology (or should that be the other way around?) that explains why we do what we do and why we make the choices we make. And why it might have been better for us if we stayed at the same intellectual level as the organisms that share the world we live in (assuming we let them).
Any exploration of what makes us tick and what drives us is worthy of consideration, especially in this horrendous media fuelled craziness we call life, that can drive so many of us to suicide. This is a book that rates highly in this category for me. It is brilliantly thought out, with a progression that makes clear and understandable deductions based on observable behaviours and actions.
It focusses on many of the questions I have long pondered and look to answer; the beauty of this book for me is that it has a completely different starting point even if many of the possible conclusions are similar.
Read this book. Put it down, think and read some more. Repeat.
There’s too much to take in in one sitting.
And then do it again.
A superbly constructed text.

"Lorenzo has done a brilliant job of making deeply philosophical concepts pretty easy to grasp"
I don’t think there’s one particular part of The Fractured Soul that has stayed with me — there are loads of little bits I remember — but it’s more the book as a whole. It feels like it triggered something in me that lets me accept and explore my own thoughts and insights rather than questioning whether I’m actually going "mad". Throughout the book I kept finding myself nodding or thinking, “That’s exactly what I mean" or "that's what I've been trying to explain to people".
My mind had some of the ideas, thoughts, perceptions and theories presented in this book already, but I couldn’t verbalise them, and suddenly there they were on the page. Lorenzo has done a brilliant job of making deeply philosophical concepts pretty easy to grasp; although there's a few places you might need to re-read a paragraph or two so that you can process and let the words land fully.
I loved the combination of ideas, humour and illustrations. I kept chuckling because some of the cartoons are just so true and relatable.
This book also genuinely made me reconsider death and what we are as humans. One of the biggest takeaways for me is that perhaps we aren’t actually physical beings at all, but are simply consciousness having a physical experience — and that life is, for the most part, about learning to be consciously aware at much deeper levels than we (as humans) currently are.
I’m not sure this is a book everyone would immediately “get”. I think you at least have to be at a point where you’re starting to question what you’ve always accepted as reality, and are now looking for deeper perspectives.
The Fractured Soul should most definitely be a part of what gets you awakening even further.
